Rewrite the Food Rules: Building a Kinder Culture Around Eating

Date & Time: Wednesday, Jun 18—6:30 to 7:30 PM CST
Location: Virtual
Cost: $15
Swimsuit season is closing in, and so is a sense of dread for some people who will give in to years’ worth of marketing about being “beach body ready.” The trouble is, diets won't make permanent change about how you feel about your body, but they might harm your kids' relationship to eating.
Join Just Mind’s Denise Jorgensen for an impactful webinar designed to help parents shift the conversation around food, body image and self-trust.
Denise struggled for over a decade with multiple eating disorders and has since drawn on her experience to become a compassionate therapist specializing in helping clients with food struggles. A mom to four kids, Denise is certified in Intuitive Eating and draws from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, using authenticity, mindfulness techniques and even humor to engage clients.
The session will explore how to nurture a healthier relationship with food for your child—and for yourself. Through practical strategies and real-world examples, you'll learn:
How to move beyond “good” and “bad” food labels
Tools for creating positive, stress-free mealtime experiences
How to foster resilience and emotional well-being around eating
If you cannot attend, here are some things to think about as you help your children grow up confident, connected and free from diet culture.
Ask yourself if you have:
➔ Questioned a child’s hunger or quantity of food being consumed➔ Commented negatively about your body around a child➔ Forced a child to finish all of their food, even when they’ve said they’re full➔ Praised or criticized a child for their size➔ Compared a child’s body to another's or to your own at that age
Embrace HEALTH
Consider your own relationship to food, and remember that real HEALTH has nothing to do with food rules or your weight.
Head: Examine your thoughts around food and where they come from, without judgment.
Eliminate: Delete negative influences on social media and food tracking apps. Throw out the scale, the pants that are too small and any other influences that make you feel bad.
Attitude: Cultivate gratitude for your body. Appreciating all the amazing things your body does opens up a new way of loving and accepting yourself.
Learn: Seek information on anti-diet approaches to food, such as Intuitive Eating, Mindful Eating and HAES, that teach how to relate to food and your body with respect, trust and well-being.
Talk: Tell your closest people you’re trying to heal your relationship with food and your body. Ask them to please not make comments about it one way or another and that you’d prefer not to be involved in diet conversations either. There is more about you to praise, and so many topics that are way more interesting!
Help: Seek help from a licensed therapist trained in body image and food struggles to dive deeper into the roots of these struggles. To continue your healing, you can embrace the beauty that is, and always has been, the true you!
